Best Hawaiian Street Food for Pacific Heights, Honolulu

Pacific Heights climbs a narrow ridge between Pauoa and Nuʻuanu valleys, and the reward for those tight, winding streets is a view straight down over downtown and the harbor. Up here there are homes, not lunch counters – so when the ridge gets hungry, Danjah Dog’s island-style dogs, Hammah Burgahs and Cazi’s Hawaiian bentos are waiting below in Iwilei, or can come up for a party.

From the Ridge Down to the Truck

    Where the truck parks

There’s no Danjah Dog stop on Pacific Heights Road. The truck sets up every Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 3 PM, in the Lowes Home Improvement parking lot at 411 Pacific Street in Iwilei. Since most ridge residents already drive down through Nuʻuanu every day, it’s an easy add-on to an errand run in town.

    Ridge-friendly orders

Heading back uphill with lunch for the house? Cazi’s bento (mini lau lau plus kalua pig) and a stack of Da Original Hammahs reheat and share well. Early risers can catch a brunch sando any time of day, and Dole Soft Serve at $6 keeps the little ones happy.

Valleys, Views & Neighbors Around the Ridge

Pacific Heights is a small, quiet hillside of roughly 300 homes, rising to about 900 feet. Developer Charles Desky began selling lots here in 1899 and even built Hawaiʻi’s first electric railway to carry buyers up the slope. Today the ridge is framed by two historic valleys and looks out over the city.

    • Pacific Heights Road

The single winding road that serves the ridge, narrowing as it climbs from Nuʻuanu toward the top.

    • Pauoa Valley

The valley on the ridge’s eastern side, home to an older residential neighborhood of its own.

    • Nuʻuanu Valley

On the western side, and the daily route in and out for ridge residents heading to town.

    • Puowaina (Punchbowl)

The crater that holds the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, just across Pauoa from the ridge.

    • Downtown & harbor views

On a clear day the ridge looks over downtown Honolulu, the harbor and out to sea – great backdrop for a lanai party.
