Heʻeia is one of the places on Oʻahu where old Hawaiian food systems are being brought back to life. Volunteers restack the walls of a centuries-old fishpond, and loʻi kalo are returning to the wetland behind it. Between community workdays, boat-ramp mornings and family celebrations, there’s always a hungry crew – and Danjah Dog can feed it.

Fueling Heʻeia Workdays
The truck’s home base
Danjah Dog doesn’t park in Heʻeia. The truck runs Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 3 PM, from the Lowes Home Improvement lot at 411 Pacific Street in Iwilei. For anything on the windward side, book the truck or order drop-off catering.
After a morning in the mud
Volunteer crews and boat crews come back starving. Brunch sandos ($8, served all day) work for early call times; for lunch, Da Original Hammah ($17), Da Big Hot Podagee ($15) and Cazi’s bento refill the tank.

Heʻeia State Park
An 18.5-acre state park on the bay, set between the fishpond and the small boat harbor.
Heʻeia wetlands
Hundreds of acres where the nonprofit Kākoʻo ʻŌiwi is restoring loʻi kalo and hosting volunteer workdays.
Haʻikū Valley
The deep valley under the Koʻolau, home to the former Coast Guard radio site and the off-limits Haʻikū Stairs.
