Hoakalei takes its name from a coastal spring in an old moʻolelo: the goddess Hiʻiaka, crossing Honouliuli toward Puʻuloa, looked into its water and saw herself wearing a lehua lei – “reflection of the garland.” Today the name belongs to a resort community with a golf club and a surf lagoon. Danjah Dog brings a more casual local flavor to its gatherings.
