Niu means “coconut,” and the valley that carries the name runs from Kalanianaʻole Highway up toward the Koʻolau, split by Kūlepeamoa Ridge into Pia and Kūpaua valleys. Families have been settling these quiet streets since the 1950s, when the old estate lands were first subdivided. It’s a backyard-party kind of neighborhood – graduations, baby lūʻau, block reunions – and that’s where Danjah Dog’s island-style street food fits in.
