Best Hawaiian Street Food for Tantalus & Round Top Drive

Tantalus is Honolulu’s rainforest backyard – a loop of switchback roads, shady forest trails and lookouts where the whole south shore spreads out below. There are no restaurants among the trees, which is exactly why a hike or a sunset drive up here ends with a serious appetite. Danjah Dog’s truck in Iwilei is ready with island-style dogs, burgers and bentos when you come back down.

After the Trail, Before the Nap

    Where to refuel

Nothing is sold on Tantalus or Round Top Drive, so pack water for the hike and plan lunch for after. Danjah Dog parks Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 3 PM, in the Lowes Home Improvement lot at 411 Pacific Street in Iwilei. Finish a morning loop, drive back down to town, and you’re in time for lunch.

    Post-hike picks

Muddy boots call for something hearty: Da Big Hot Podagee ($15) or a Da Hawaiian Hurricane Hammah ($21). Started at sunrise? The brunch sandos run all day. And a cup of Dole Soft Serve is the best cool-down there is after a sweaty climb.

    Tantalus Questions? We Got Answers

For hikers, sunset chasers and families living up the mountain.

Is there anywhere to eat on Tantalus?

Tantalus is a forested residential area and state park land, without restaurants or food vendors. Danjah Dog’s truck is down in town at 411 Pacific Street in Iwilei, Monday to Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM.

Can Danjah Dog meet us at Puʻu ʻUalakaʻa State Wayside?

There’s no Danjah Dog stop at the wayside, and any event at a state park would need the park’s own approval. The simple plan is to grab food at the truck before or after your visit, or book catering at a private home.

Do delivery apps reach Round Top Drive and Tantalus Drive?

It depends on the app and your exact address. Danjah Dog is on DoorDash and Uber Eats – enter your Tantalus address to see if delivery is offered.

What’s a good meal after hiking the Makiki Valley trails?

Something big: Da Hawaiian Hurricane Hammah, Da Big Hot Podagee, or Cazi’s mini lau lau and kalua pig bento. Add a $3 combo for a drink and chips.

What ZIP code is Tantalus in?

Tantalus and Round Top Drive addresses use Honolulu ZIP code 96822.

    How spicy is Danjah Sauce?

You choose: Danjah, Mo Danjah, or Majah Danjah when available. The sauce is built from 27 to 33 ingredients depending on the peppers.
