The Waiʻanae Coast: Beaches, Mountains & Towns

Waiʻanae sits on Oʻahu’s Leeward Coast between the ocean and the Waiʻanae Range, with Farrington Highway tying it to Māʻili and Nānākuli to the south and Mākaha to the north. The road keeps going past Yokohama Bay until it ends near Kaʻena Point. These are some of the landmarks that define the coast.

    • Pōkaʻī Bay Beach Park

A breakwater-protected bay that’s often calmer than other west shore beaches, with lifeguards on duty – a favorite for family swims and picnics.

    • Kūʻilioloa Heiau

An ancient Hawaiian temple site on Kāneʻīlio Point, at the edge of Pōkaʻī Bay.

    • Mākaha Beach

A long stretch of golden sand and one of the first places surfers rode big waves, still home to a classic big-board surf event.

    • Kaʻala

The highest peak on Oʻahu at about 4,025 feet, rising from the Waiʻanae Range behind town.

    • Kaʻena Point

The westernmost point of Oʻahu, a sacred place and protected natural area reached on foot at the end of the road.
